I qualified as a paramedic with South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS)after working as an Emergency Care Assistant and completing a Foundation degree in Paramedic and Emergency Care from Oxford Brookes University. Prior to this I completed a Bsc(hons) in Biology from the University of Dundee which provided a solid building block for my clinical training. Since then, I primarily worked for SCAS in and around Oxford. During this time, I also volunteered in Greece during the Syrian War by providing medical care for homeless refugees in Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2019 I joined the Scottish Ambulance Service working on the Isle of Skye which gave me an insight into rural paramedic practice. Most recently, I worked as a paramedic in a GP practice which was one of the first roles of its kind in central Scotland. This allowed me to gain my independent prescribing qualification and increase my knowledge of medications and chronic disease management. Professionally, I have interests in palliative and end of life care, pharmacology, humanitarian and wilderness medicine, and paramedic and student wellbeing.
My main research interests are related to human factors in student paramedic practice and the transition from student to preceptor. I also have a growing interest in rural practice and improving skill and staff retention in these areas as well as developing the paramedic role within Scotland to other sectors.
