Amina comes from a public health background focusing on humanitarian/ conflict settings. Her area of work was mainly centred around the Syrian conflict and more recently the conflict in Ukraine. She holds a master’s degree from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in International Public Health (humanitarian settings), and worked there on several research projects ranging from investigating the outbreaks of infectious diseases in Syria (leishmaniasis), to maternal and child health studies looking at the effects of displacement on key indicators. Her dissertation project focussed on evaluating the COVID-19 response in North West Syria in collaboration with UOSSM, Idleb Health Directorate, and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Amina has collaborated with IGHD on research projects exploring health system strengthening in Northern Syria.

Alongside her ¹ú²úÂÒÂ× work, Amina continues to work in the field of implementation, with a French NGO called Mehad (previously known as UOSSM France), which delivers health services and health system strengthening activities in humanitarian and development settings. As a member of the HQ team, Amina supports overseeing the organisations current projects across three different missions (Turkey, Iraq, and Ukraine) as well as the HQ hub in Paris.

Her work at Mehad includes the development of innovative scale studies to evaluate key public health indicators generating data on indicators such as maternal and neonatal mortality rates for funded projects focussed on health system strengthening. Amina also is in charge of coordinating studies including ones on topics such as private sector engagement in health as a way to increase coverage of health services and increase complementarity across different health system stakeholders, household expenditure on health assessments as a way to increase health system equity and access, C-section experiences exploratory studies shedding light on current overuse.

Amina is also currently involved in several consultancy projects including as a consultant to the WHO on disability inclusive health systems in the EMRO region via the Global Disability Innovation Hub at UCL.

Upon joining IGHD as a Research Fellow, Amina has been supporting the UNHCR project exploring countries’ health system response to refugees. She supports element of the UNHCR project including the global literature review, and the Zambia and Pakistan case studies.
